DREAM Initiative

Determination and Resilience through Education, Achievement, and Motivation

The DREAM Initiative is a two-year, grant-funded program designed to support first-generation college students on their path to graduation. DREAM provides students with the resources, mentorship, and support needed to successfully navigate the academic, financial, and personal challenges of college. Participants benefit from:

  • A close-knit “crew” experience – Join a small group of students who will support one another throughout their time at Oakland University.
  • Dedicated advocacy and support – A university staff member will act as your advocate, connecting you with campus resources.
  • Peer mentorship – A student mentor will offer guidance and encouragement throughout your journey. student mentor who offers additional direction and support
  • Personalized financial aid support – A dedicated financial aid adviser will assist you and your family with financial planning, including scholarships, grants, student employment, and external funding opportunities.
  • Academic advising – A specialized adviser in the First Year Advising Center will monitor and support your course progress.
  • Residential community (optional) – Students choosing to live on campus will be placed in the same residence hall for additional peer support and community building.
